This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

After the feast of football over the festive period, its back to the grind of a regular January weekend in the calendar. That’s not to say there isn’t plenty to look forward to though, so read on for a selection of what’s on offer around the leagues.

? Friday Night

?? The pick of this evening’s games comes from Germany where Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. Bayern München is, for fans of a certain age – the original Klassiker. For much of the 1970s and into the 1980s, it was these two that contested for honours most regularly, even sharing the league title between them for 9 consecutive seasons. Now, it’s started to feel like the big game history says it should – with Gladbach resurgent in recent seasons and European Champions Bayern being… well, Bayern.

? The English FA Cup Third Round, the stage at which all Premier League and Championship sides enter the competition gets underway this evening.

But you’ll have to wait for the usual David vs. Goliath stories of part-time sides from outside the football league taking on top flight giants – tonight’s fixtures are an all Premier League affair – Aston Villa, or according to the latest rumours (at the time of writing), Aston Villa U23 side entertain Liverpool whilst just across the midlands, Wolves take on Crystal Palace.

?? In La Liga, 5th meets 8th with Villarreal travelling to Celta Vigo. The latter have been much improved since the appointment of Argentine coach Eduardo ‘El Chacho’ Coudet but they were one of a number of top flight sides humiliated by lower league opposition in the Copa Del Rey this week.

? Saturday

?? Sticking with the action in Spain, and sides who were knocked out of the country’s biggest cup competition this week – Atlético Madrid will be looking to bounce back from that shock 1-0 defeat by Segunda B outfit, UE Cornellà to retain top spot in La Liga as they host Athletic Club Bilbao.

Elsewhere, the rest of the top four are all in action with Real Sociedad perhaps facing the toughest test – on the road to 6th placed Sevilla.

?? And there’s also another big fixture lined up for tomorrow in the Bundesliga as the ‘Best of the Rest’ at least, in the past couple of years – Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head. Dortmund have a great record in these games, losing just once to Leipzig since they were promoted to the Bundesliga back in 2016.

Another game to keep your eye on is Schalke’s home tie against Hoffenheim, if only to see whether Schalke will equal the all-time league record of 31 games without a win! The now 5th tier, Tasmania Berlin set the yardstick for this, failing to win a single game across their only full season in the top flight back in the 1960s. And fans of the club are actually cheering Schalke on as they want to keep that rather dubious claim to fame all to themselves!

??????? In England, the FA Cup 3rd Round struggles on through the worsening coronavirus pandemic, with Derby County another side forced to field a youth team for their tie at non-league Chorley.

Elsewhere, defending champions Arsenal take on fellow Premier League club Newcastle United. And there’s an evening kick-off for Manchester United who face Watford, currently lying 6th in the Championship.

? Across the Irish sea, our tip for the obscurest derby of the weekend takes place between Northern Ireland’s Big Two – Linfield and Glentoran, a game with a lot of history for supporters of both clubs.

?? And in Ligue 1, Mauricio Pochettino will take charge of his first home game since becoming manager of PSG, as they host Brest. Pochettino started with a draw at Saint Etienne in midweek and go into the weekend 3 points down on league leaders Lyon.

? Sunday

? The romantics amongst you will have to wait until Sunday for the biggest story in this year’s FA Cup as José Mourinho takes his Spurs side to Marine FC, a part-time outfit who play in the Northern Premier League Division One North West, which sits at the 8th tier of England’s football pyramid.

?? The Serie A title race got a whole lot more interesting in the week, with Juventus ending Milan’s 15-game unbeaten start to the campaign and Inter also suffering defeat. Now, with Milan playing Saturday, Juve will know what they need to further cut the difference between them at the top of the table by the time they kick-off against high-flying Sassuolo on Sunday evening.

And in perhaps, the other pick of the weekend’s games in Italy, Inter go to Roma in the day’s early kick-off.

?? Last but not least in this round-up, the Dutch Eredivisie returns to action with a bang after the Christmas break. First, there’s a Rotterdam Derby between Sparta Rotterdam (9th) and Feyenoord (3rd), then later in the day, it’s time for De Topper – the name given to the heavyweight clash featuring Ajax and PSV Eindhoven. The match has extra significance this time around due to the current make-up of the league table. ?

16-year old Youssoufa Moukoko makes his TOTW debut after getting Dortmund’s solitary goal in a 2-1 loss to Union Berlin.

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

‘Twos the weekend before Christmas and all was well… as hectic as ever in the football calendar! There’s big Continental Finals in Asia, Continental Semi-Finals in the CONCACAF region and schedules as long as your arm in Europe’s big leagues. The games detailed below are just our selection of highlights from what’s coming up but whatever you’re in to, you should be able to follow it on FotMob. We’ve got you covered.

? Friday Night

?? Tonight, your fix of La Liga action comes from the Basque Country where, still smarting from a midweek defeat at Real Madrid, the team their fans love to hate most – Athletic Club take on struggling Huesca. A win would take them in to the top half of the table.

?? In the Bundesliga, Union Berlin once again take centre-stage as they kick the weekend off against Borussia Dortmund. As you’ll know, Dortmund sacked coach Lucien Favre after their shocking 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart last weekend but new caretaker manager, Edin Terzić did start with a win in midweek. Union will be a far tougher proposition though, as their recent draw with Bayern suggests.

?? Before those games in the top leagues, you might want to check in on the biggest game in Bulgarian football as arch-rivals, CSKA Sofia and Levski Sofia meet in the capital. The game was originally postponed due to yep, you guessed it, positive coronavirus tests in one of the squads but should go ahead today.

? Saturday

?? Tomorrow looks pretty busy in La Liga with a (possibly) revitalised Barcelona side at home to Valencia whilst the team they dethroned from the top of the table in midweek – Real Sociedad aim to bounce back at Levante.

??????? The Premier League weekend starts with a bang as Champions, and now freshly reinstalled as leaders Liverpool head to Crystal Palace in the lunchtime kick-off.

That’s followed by Southampton versus Man City, a test for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta goes back to former club Everton and Newcastle United’s home game against Fulham.

?? There’s a massive match in the Bundesliga where surprise table toppers Bayer Leverkusen take on Bayern München and the newly crowned FIFA Best player in the world, Robert Lewandowski.

? After a particularly difficult year in Asian football, the AFC have managed to successfully get the Champions League to the Final after playing both the Western and Eastern knockout stage of the tournament at a central base in Qatar. Now, Iran’s biggest club Persepolis play Ulsan Hyundai to determine this year’s Asian Champions. And with Ulsan having recently been pipped to the post in both the Korean league and cup, you can bet they’ll be aiming to end 2020 on a more positive note.

? Speaking of centralised continental tournaments, CONCACAF have also been wrapping up the Champions League for their region with all games taking place in Orlando, Florida. And on Saturday night, we’ll see both semi-finals take place over 10 months after the start of the last round way back in March.

Sole MLS survivors, LAFC will meet the record tournament winners, Club América. And another Liga MX side, Tigres will go up against Honduran club, Olimpia.

? Sunday

??????? Christmas is usually a time for family but this being 2020 the Premier League have lined up Manchester United’s first meeting with fierce rivals Leeds United since the latter were promoted back to the top flight. This one has come to represent one of the deepest divides in English folklore, with United defending the honour of Lancashire’s red rose whilst Leeds stand behind the white rose of Yorkshire!

Here’s the rest of the EPL line-up for Sunday, including another derby between new appointed – Sam Allardyce’s West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa.

??????? Sunday sees the Scottish Cup Final take place at Hampden Park as Celtic face Championship side Hearts. And it’s a bit of strange one as this is technically the final for the 2019/20 season, going on whilst the 2020/21 edition is already underway.

Talk of a 10-in-a-row weighs heavy on Celtic fans as hopes of 10th straight league title look slimmer so the Cup Final will be a nice distraction, although there is the small matter of their former keeper, Craig Gordon now in goal for the opposition. He’s gunning for his own 10-in-a-row having never lost a competitive final at Hampden Park!

?? With Juve the only big side from Serie A playing on Saturday, Sunday will see a feast of activity in Italy. Unbeaten league leaders Milan face the impressive Sassuolo, a side who themselves have lost just once whilst second placed Inter host Spezia back at the San Siro.

Elsewhere, 5th placed Napoli travel to the capital, where they’ll face a Lazio side looking for their first win in 3 league games.

?? For once, Ligue 1 is looking tight at the top so Sunday’s clash between Lille and PSG, first vs. second should go some way to telling us whether the table is a true reflection of the state of play.

??????? And a special preview to close, from our friends at award-winning podcast, Two Girls Talk Balls:

Here we are: the last weekend of the WSL in 2020! This Sunday is jam-packed with action with the early kick-off at Leigh Sports Village, where a struggling Bristol play Manchester United, who will hope to end the year in the top spot. In the middle slot Chelsea play host to Tottenham Hotspur, which could be a ferocious clash now that Spurs have found some form under their new manager. A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at TGTB.

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

With over 375 Leagues and Cup competitions available in the app, we expect your Matches tab is looking pretty busy this weekend but this column is designed to help you focus in on the games that matter most over the next few days – from those involving the biggest teams to Cup Finals, local derbies, title deciders and relegation six-pointers. We’ve got you covered. ⬇️

? Friday Night

?? This evening’s biggest fixture comes from Berlin, where the German capital’s two largest sides – Hertha and Union meet in a derby that is still something of a novelty. With the clubs divided for so long; first due to the Wall and latterly by the disparity between the club’s fortunes, this is only the second season in which they’ve shared the top flight. And to the surprise of many, it’s Union who are flying – unbeaten since the opening day.

?? The Friday night game from La Liga pits Athletic Club against Celta Vigo, with the latter on a high after finally ending a run of 8 games without a win last weekend. The evergreen Iago Aspas was integral to that victory over Granada and the club legend has now provided an assist or scored in his last four appearances. He even made the coveted (by some!) FotMob Team of the Week.

?? In the newly renamed, Copa Diego Maradona – Gimnasia, the side Maradona was coaching until his tragic passing face Huracán as they look to progress to the next stage.

? Saturday

?? La Liga’s big two plus Diego Simeone’s impressive Atlético side are all in action tomorrow – with Atleti looking for the win that will take them top of the table against Valladolid.

Under fire Zinedine Zidane takes Real Madrid to Sevilla in the potential game of the day whilst Barcalona look to continue their bounce at Cádiz.

?? There’s a top of the table clash in Germany as leaders Bayern München take on RB Leipzig knowing a slip-up, however unlikely that seems will allow Leipzig to overtake them.

Meanwhile, Dortmund go to Eintracht Frankfurt looking to improve on their patchy recent form.

?? Tomorrow, the weekend’s series of big league derbies moves to Turin, where Juventus are at home to Torino in the Derby della Mole, Italy’s oldest same-city rivalry. It would be fair to say Juve have traditionally had the upper hand in this one, with Torino beating them just once in the last 25 years – and their last victory at Juventus came in 1995.

??????? The four games in the Premier League all have something about them – starting with Everton’s trip to Burnley and ending with the clash where, at least as far as the fans are concerned, there is no love lost, Chelsea vs. Leeds United. This weekend also marks the first occasion since March that a limited number of fans will be allowed in to stadiums located in certain parts of the country. Which is great news.

? Sunday

??????? Sticking with the Premier League action in to Sunday, there’s the small matter of the North London Derby – Tottenham Hotspur vs. Arsenal to look forward to. With both sides in Europa League action during the week, this could be an interesting test for Spur’s credentials as the league leaders whilst Arsenal are seeking to end a run of 4 domestic games without a win.

Speaking of sides who’ve been busy in the Europa League, Leicester go to struggling Sheffield United after making the long trip back from Ukraine, where they lost to little-known, Zorya on Thursday night.

The Champions meanwhile, are up against Wolves in the day’s late game. Liverpool then, having watched all the other results come in will know exactly what they need to do to either keep pace with Spurs at the top, or overtake them with a win of their own.

?? Headlining six games in Serie A is Milan’s trip to Sampdoria, with the Rossoneri looking to extend their unbeaten start into double figures, in terms of games played.

?? In Ireland, the season wraps up with the final of the FAI Cup and for the sixth season in a row, Dundalk have made it to the showpiece game. This year, they again face league champions Shamrock Rovers after losing out to them on penalties last season. In fact, they’ve actually only won two of the previous five finals but after putting 11 goals past Athlone in the last round, we think they’re up for this one!

?? Here in Norway, there’s an exciting climax to the Toppserien as three of the country’s top women’s sides compete for the title on the final day of the season. And none of them are LSK, the champions in the previous six seasons!

Vålerenga are probably best placed to take what would be their first title as they have home advantage whilst Rosenborg and Avaldsnes are on the road.

?? And we’ll end with our random big derby of the week as Czech rivals, Sparta and Slavia Prague go head-to-head.

Here’s what a game between the two looked like pre-global pandemic.

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

This has been a week filled with continental football competitions; from the Champions League to the AFC Champions League and the CONCACAF League to the Copa Sudamericana. So it’s about time we got back down to the nitty gritty of the world’s domestic leagues for the weekend.

Here, we pick through the best games FotMob has to offer over the next few days. ⬇️

? Friday Night

??????? With no pesky European away trips distracting them, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United should have been able to concentrate fully on giving us a decent opener to the weekend in the Premier League.

? And staying in England, there’s a local derby in the EFL Championship as QPR make their first trip to Brentford’s new stadium, approximately 3 miles away from their own ground in West London.

? Having just said the week was full of continental competition, we should point out that perhaps the biggest game actually comes tonight, with the Final of the CAF Champions League. And for the first time in the 56 year history of the tournament, we not only have two sides from the same country, but two sides from the same city competing to lift the crown.

Great Egyptian rivals, Zamalek (5 times previous winners) and Al Ahly (record 8 times winners) meet at the Cairo International Stadium, a ground they both use for most of their regular games.

? Saturday

??????? Tomorrow should be an interesting day in the Premier League as we’ll get to see how Liverpool continue to cope with their injury concerns as they feature in the lunchtime kick-off at Brighton.

Next, Manchester City will be hoping to take their Champions League form into the Premier League as they host Burnley, whilst two of the season’s most entertaining sides, Everton and Leeds play at Goodison and West Brom and Sheffield United meet in what, since the Battle of Bramall Lane, back in 2002 has become a bit of a non-local rivalry.

?? In La Liga, both Madrid sides will be hoping to build up to next weekend’s derby between the two by picking up three confidence boosting points – Atlético go to ever unpredictable Valencia, whilst Real have a home game against Alavés.

?? Juventus are in action against Pippo Inzaghi’s Benevento as they continue to play catch up in Seria A. The newly promoted side have the joint worst defensive record so far this season, so a win for Juve would put them just one point below league leaders Milan, at least until the bulk of the games on Sunday.

?? Saturday is a busy day, as ever in the Bundesliga. Of the current top six, only Bayer Leverkusen aren’t in action as the likes of Bayern visit Stuttgart, RB Leipzig play Arminia and Dortmund host struggling FC Köln.

We’ll be waiting for the inevitable goal alert from that one.

?? After tipping the title race to be over in its penultimate round in this column last weekend, the Belarusian Premier League has actually gone down to the final day. And as if by magic, the league have arranged the country’s version of the Clasico – with BATE Borisov needing a win at traditional rivals, Dynomo Minsk to secure the title. Should they fail, Shakhtyor Soligorsk could sneak it with a win of their own at home to FC Minsk.

? Sunday

?? Two big games involving leading sides to tell you about in Italy – one sees Milan continue their unexpected title charge, at home to Fiorentina and the other sees third placed, Roma go to Napoli. There will no doubt be emotional scenes as the club again, pay tribute to their all-time idol, Diego Maradona.

?? Real Sociedad, another surprise leader of a top European league face stiff opposition on Sunday as they play Villarreal, who sit third going into the weekend. La Real have lost just once so far and although Atlético Madrid have games in hand, they have been more than good value for their run at the top.

Barcelona on the other hand, would die for a league record to match that this season. They go into their game against Osasuna level on points with their opponents, sitting 13th and 14th in the league respectively.

??????? Jose Mourinho will have been basking in his side’s victory over Pep Guardiola last weekend, seen by many as a tactical masterclass on his part – a win that saw Spurs go top of the Premier League. Now, this Sunday he must go to Chelsea to face not only his former club, but the former captain of his title-winning side, Frank Lampard in the opposition dugout. With Chelsea just two points behind in the table, this is going to be a vital game.

In Sunday’s other fixtures in the EPL, Manchester United are away to Southampton and Arsenal entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers.

? And just to round up the weekend’s action, how about a few big derbies? In Austria, Rapid Vienna are reunited with recently re-promoted Austria Vienna whilst in Bulgaria, there’s the second meeting of the season between PFC CSKA Sofia and CSKA 1948, the two clubs fighting over the legacy of the original CSKA Sofia club who went bankrupt. And further East, Fenerbahçe play Beşiktaş in Turkey.

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

After what may have seemed an extended international break but was actually just loads more games squeezed in to the same November window as usual, club football is back.

And there’s intriguing stories wherever you look – top of the table clashes, former players and managers meeting their old clubs, a couple of league titles will probably be decided and there is of course, the latest instalment of Mourinho vs. Guardiola.

Here, we pick through the best games FotMob has to offer over the next few days. ⬇️

? Friday Night

?? There’s no better place to start tonight’s previews than the Stade Louis II in the Principality of Monaco. Here, Kylian Mbappé will return to his former club as a part of a PSG side looking to continue their 8-Ligue 1 game winning streak prior to the international break.

?? In La Liga, the Friday evening game comes in Pamplona where hosts Osasuna face bottom club Huesca. The newly promoted club are still looking for their first win of the season whilst the home side are sitting in the relative comfort of lower mid-table!

?? We have now reached post-season in MLS where tonight, the usual play-offs begin with what they’re calling the play-in round for the sides who finished 7th – 10th in the Eastern Conference. New England Revolution take on Thierry Henry’s Montreal Impact whilst further south, the two new expansion sides that joined the league this year meet one another as Nashville host Inter Miami.

? Saturday

??????? In the week that Pep Guardiola seemingly ended speculation over his future by signing an extended contract at Manchester City, he is reunited with his old managerial foe, José Mourinho as City go to Tottenham Hotspur. The two have met from opposite dugouts 23 times during their careers, with Pep boasting 11 wins to Mourinho’s 6 but this season, it’s Spurs who have looked the more fluent side in the Premier League.

Amongst the other games in England’s top flight tomorrow, Manchester United play West Brom and Chelsea go to Newcastle United.

?? A rush of positive coronavirus tests in the Uruguay squad for last week’s World Cup Qualifiers has put paid to what many were most excited about this weekend – the first meeting between Barcelona and Luis Suárez’s new club, Atlético Madrid since the striker was supposedly forced out of Camp Nou earlier this season. Still, there’s plenty to look forward to in this game, especially with Atleti being the only unbeaten side in the division and the team averaging the most goals per game – 2.43 to be precise!

Before that late kick-off, Real Madrid get the chance to temporarily leapfrog their in-form opponents, Villarreal AND Atlético to move second in the table.

?? Saturday is a bumper day in the Bundesliga with seven games in total. European Champions Bayern go up against Werder Bremen in one of the afternoon kick-offs before later, Leipzig go to Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund are in the capital to play Hertha.

? Around Europe, there are also a few derby games that might be of interest. In Switzerland, it’s not local pride at stake but more a question of national reputation as FC Basel go to Young Boys in a clash between the perennial title challengers.

Moving to Greece, Olympiacos host arch-rivals Panathinaikos whilst in Bulgaria, the big two meet in Sofia as CSKA play Levski. Both games are pretty spectacular when fans are allowed in the stands.

? Sunday

?? The headline game of the Serie A weekend sees league leaders Milan go to 3rd placed Napoli looking for their first win in Naples since 2010. The winning goalscorer that day? None over than Zlatan Imbrahimović, who also happens to be the current top scorer in the league 10 years on… incredible!

??????? Back in the EPL, we see another clash between sides currently sitting 1st and 3rd in the table – with Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers returning to former club, Liverpool. It’s the current incumbent at Anfield who’s feeling the pressure though thanks to the Champions’ extensive injury list and recent positive coronavirus tests in the squad. So Much so, Jürgen Klopp was reported to be calling up 8 youth players to the first team ahead of the game.

Here’s Sunday’s Premier League line-up in full:

?? You didn’t think we’d forgotten about our favourite lockdown #1-defying league in Europe, did you!? Well, the Premier League in Belarus has now reached it’s penultimate round of games and the title could be decided on Sunday.

BATE Borisov, the big boys of the league saw their 13-year run as Champions ended last year but could swiftly re-take their crown with a victory over Belshina. If they slip up, Shakhtyor Soligorsk are the most likely to benefit, should they themselves win away at Rukh Brest. ?

?? And finally, in Norway – one of the most dominant teams in all of Europe during 2020 should finally wrap up the Eliteserien title. Bodø/Glimt have won 21 of their 24 fixtures to date, scoring a whopping 83 goals along the way in a year that will long be remembered by the fans… despite so few of them actually getting to see the team win what will be their first ever league title!

Glimt could actually have secured that title by Sunday if Molde drop points tomorrow but either way, they’ll be looking to celebrate with a win away at Strømgodset.

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

This Weekend: Everything you need to know in 5 minutes

We find ourselves in the midst of the November international break, which in different parts of the world could mean your country is involved in vital World Cup or continental qualifiers, competitive UEFA Nations League matches or just plain friendly games of dubious worth.

And besides that, there is still a lot of club football going on if you know where to find it! Here, we pick through the best games FotMob has to offer over the next few days. ⬇️

? Friday Night

?? In South America, Brazil play their 3rd World Cup Qualifier against Venezuela. The Seleção are, as always favourites to win the 10-team round-robin group that makes up qualifying for the 2022 World Cup and they’ve already enjoyed comfortable wins against Bolivia and Peru – pick up a third tonight and they’ll go back to the top of the table following Argentina’s home draw against Paraguay.

? Elsewhere, there’s the crunch match between Colombia and Uruguay, and the derby between heated Pacific coast rivals Chile and Peru – a game which usually ends in acrimony and accusations of wrongdoing!

? In Africa, there are a total of 48 qualifying games for the next Cup of Nations tournament scheduled during this international break! Fixtures today include tests for some of the continent’s traditional powers including Tunisia, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa.

??????? In domestic football, England’s League Two provides a new local rivalry to get your teeth into. Salford City, owned by former Manchester United legends and therefore indirectly associated with the club go up against fallen giants, Bolton Wanderers who themselves, have never been particularly fond of their North West neighbours.

? Saturday

? Tomorrow in international football, the UEFA Nations League takes centre-stage. The heavyweights of League A, largely found in Groups 3 and 4 all play and there’s some tasty looking games. European Champions Portugal go up against World Cup holders, France as they battle for superiority in Group 3 whilst Spain go to Switzerland and Germany host Ukraine in Group 4.

??????? In England, the WSL are pushing #WomensFootballWeekend in the absence of the top men’s leagues and the fixture list for tomorrow features not one, but two derby games. Current leaders of the league, Manchester United take on rivals, City whilst in England’s second city, Aston Villa entertain Birmingham City.

??????? Our own, Hampton & Richmond Borough – who recovered from late disappointment in the FA Cup last weekend by winning at the side who were top of National League South in midweek are on the road again, this time at Chelmsford City. Come on you Beavers!

?? Back in South America, where domestic football pays no heed to the international break it’s been a busy week for some of Brazil’s top clubs. In fact, two of the current top three have even changed managers – Internacional lost Eduardo Coudet to La Liga club Celta Vigo whilst Flamengo sacked former Pep Guardiola assistant, Domènec Torrent.

On Saturday night, Flamengo’s new appointment – Rogério Ceni gets his first test in the league as they play Atlético GO whilst Internacional go to Santos and Corinthians play 2nd placed, Atlético Mineiro – where Jorge Sampaoli must be looking over his shoulder, fearing for his job!

?? Tomorrow, we also welcome a new addition to the app as the Ghana Premier League season gets underway. And in one of the biggest stories of recent times in African football, Asamoah Gyan has returned to the league for the first time since 2003. He joins Legon Cities, who start the season with a game against Berekum Chelsea on Saturday night.

? Sunday

? The clash between the no. 1 side in the World, Belgium and England, currently ranked fourth according to FIFA, headlines a busy day in the UEFA Nations League.

Here’s our selection for other games to look out for:

?? The Paraguayan Superclásico takes place on Sunday evening, with Cerro Porteño hosting their Asunción neighbours and arch-rivals Olimpia. We are only in round 6 of the Clausura, the second stage of the season but Cerro will be looking to defend the title they won during the Apertura.

?? Next door, in Argentina the hastily arranged interim tournament – the Copa de la Ligue continues and Sunday’s biggest game will see Boca Juniors go up against Talleres.

??????? And finally, back in #WomensFootballWeekend, the WSL showcases another derby, a meeting between two London clubs that should feature a host of international stars – Arsenal vs. Chelsea.
